Which are the top 3 teaching and learning challenges you need to addres in 2009?

The EDUCAUSE teaching and learning community has identified their “Top Teaching and Learning Challenges, 2009.”
The final list for 2009, ranked by popularity, includes:

1. Creating learning environments that promote active learning, critical thinking, collaborative learning, and knowledge creation.
2. Developing 21st-century literacies among students and faculty (information, digital, and visual).
3. Reaching and engaging today's learner.
4. Encouraging faculty adoption and innovation in teaching and learning with IT.
5. Advancing innovation in teaching and learning (with technology) in an era of budget cuts.

What are the top 3 challenges that you and your organization will need to address in 2009 to increase or improve the adoption and effective use of technology in teaching and learning? What are the strategies or actions that you believe will get you there?

Looking forward to explore, discuss and develop some solutions together.

Hello Vasi,

From the above list 3 and 4. In addition my university is trying different models for e-learning: course e-tamplet , Moodle, Elluminate and video streaming and evaluates each experiment to try to decide which model is more appropriate to use with which course.

Welcome to this network Khader,

For my institution 3 and 4 are also of high priority and they are also somehow interrelated. If we manage to improve 4 - faculty adoption and innovation in teaching and learning with IT we are lily to improve on 3 - reaching and engaging today's learner.

We have been using Moodle for a number of years now and even though it is a LCMS with limited authoring possibilities it has met the needs of most students and staff.

Possibility to integrate Moodle with Wimba tools are ahead of us to explore.
Looking forward to hear more about your experience with technology adoption at your university.

Hello Vasi,

In accordance with our university vision, mission, objectives and strategic plan; and in the attempt to promote the positive and effective role of the university in higher education both in Palestine and the Arab world, the university council decided on 18, June, 2007 to establish the ODLC in order to encourage and develop this modern approach of higher education and employ it for societal and economic sustainable development.

Since it was opened in March, 2008, the center initiated many programs in four areas:

Upgrading employees' teaching efficiency to match the ongoing development in ODL (open distance learning)

Disseminating the philosophy and practices of distance education, e- learning and blended learning.

Developing e- learning environment through cooperation with the various centers and departments of the university.

Implementing the good teaching practices in accordance with the good quality standards related to distance education and the standards of e- learning and effective blended learning.

The Center's Mission

The center aims at exceptionally developing the academic supervisors' abilities and skills, with emphasis on e- learning and blended learning, as well as promoting the level of this sort of education in Palestine and in the Arab World.
